Family friendly holiday events abound in and around Sacramento this year. Whether your family wants to get outside for holiday happenings or sit back and enjoy holiday shows, there is something for everyone to enjoy this year! Here’s a sampling of the region festive holiday events for families.
Take in a Classic Show
The Sacramento Theatre Company presents the classic A Christmas Carol Wednesdays – Sundays through December 23, 2019.Enjoy the classic re-telling of Charles Dickens’ holiday saga of Ebenezer Scrooge, whose life is changed following ghostly visits on Christmas Eve.
Sacramento Makers Mart is the city’s “premier artisan fair” featuring more than 70 makers, artists, and entrepreneurs. With music by DJ Drew Walker and market lights aglow, the whole family will enjoy shopping for the holidays and enjoying the delectable treats available throughout the Makers Mart.
All aboard the Sacramento River Train’s family favorite – the Magical Christmas Train where you and your family can make sweet holiday memories with Santa and the elves. Each 90-minute train ride takes children through the tale of “Skippy the Traindeer” who, along with Snickerdoodle the Elf, is tasked with helping a child regain the Christmas spirit. During the ride everyone can enjoy delicious Christmas cookies, hot chocolate, carols, reindeer games, and Santa.
If your family would rather be on the river, try the Sacramento Santa River Cruise, where you and your “crew” can enjoy cookies and hot cocoa, while listening to holiday music, coloring, a meet and greet with Santa and his sing-along elf, and of course, pictures with Santa.
Family Ice Skating Fun
Enjoy family ice skating fun at the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink open through January 20, 2020 at Ali Youssefi Square. You’ll also find another great outdoor rink in Rossville at the Skatetown Ice Arena open through January 20, 2020.
Don’t Your Love a Parade?
Everyone loves a holiday parade and the Sacramento Santa Parade promises not to disappoint with vibrant music, colorful clowns, holiday floats, high stepping horses, vintage collectible cars, marching bands, and Santa! Join in the city’s holiday tradition in the heart of downtown Sacramento.
Visit the Sacramento Zoo for Holiday Magic
On Saturday, December 14, 2019, why not plan a trip to the Sacramento Zoo and join in the Holiday Magic? The day will include animal enrichments including special treats for the animals with the staff on hand to answer all your questions. There will animal encounters as well as storytelling and of course, pictures with Santa all afternoon.
Macy’s Theatre of Lights 2019
A Sacramento tradition, the Macy’s Theatre of Lights 2019 is happening through December 24. Join in the holiday fun as the historic district comes alive with colorful lights, along with a live dramatization of “Twas the Night before Christmas” and an appearance by Jack Frost.
Jump into the Holidays
